COMMISSIONERS What's Happening 04/17

Parade of Flags - Opening Ceremony - Jambo 2010

Good Sunday Morning Fellow Commissioner!

The Commissioner What a great Commissioners' Meeting on Thursday night! It was excellent to see over 60% of our Commissioners in attendance. I really appreciate everyone coming out for our meeting. I hope that you had a good time, had some excellent fellowship -- and maybe -- even learned a thing or two.

Our Mardi Gras-themed District Banquet is Friday, May 13th - remember to register now! (There are extra special surprises for those who register early!)

This Thursday is Roundtable -- a great chance to get some "Leader Meetings" in with Scouters from your Troop or Pack. As we discussed at our last meeting, we will be moving the check-in desk and unit mailboxes to the lobby area, and we will use that for any general congregation prior to, or during the Roundtable sessions. I hope to see you all there.

I took the opportunity to work in the BSA booth for the launch of our new Robotics merit badge, at the VEX World Robotics Championship held at Disney's ESPN Wide World of Sports on Friday. You would be amazed at the number of Scouts (especially Eagle Scouts) who made up many of the teams that were competing in the Championship. Saturday there was a workshop for 24 lucky Scouts to actually work and earn their Robotics merit badge. Seeing these incredibly bright kids and their unbelieveable robots gives you great hope for the future. There was lots of interest in the BSAs new STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) initiates - and our three most recent STEM focused merit badges - Geocaching,Inventing, and Robotics. (We even had some members from Scouts Canada who were asking if we could encourage Scouts Canada to adopt such a program!)
