April 2014 Student Training Offered by IS&D
NOVA Alexandria Instructional Support and Development (IS&D) is offering the following training sessions this month. Intro to Access (AE206)
Students will explore the Access database program and learn core skills such as finding and using database templates, creating tables and modifying forms and reports.  This workshop requires no previous experience with Access, but students should have basic computer knowledge and familiararity with other Microsoft programs.
Advanced Access (AE206)
This advanced workshop builds on the Access Basics class and explores more powerful aspects of Access, including pivot tables and charts, cross tab queries and macros. Students will practice adding form command buttons, adding report sections and applying advanced query wizards.  The workshop also teaches students to create calculated controls and running sums.  A solid grasp of basic Microsoft Access skills is required.
Dreamweaver (AE206)
Learn how to create a website using Dreamweaver.
Excel Basics (AE206)
This workshop is designed to give you a working knowledge of Excel.  You will learn how to create columns and rows, format cells, and use basic formulas.
Advanced Excel (AE206)
This workshop builds on the Excel Basics to provide students with advanced knowledge of Excel spreadsheets.  Learn how to define named ranges, link multiple workbooks, import data, use pivot tables and chars, work with templates and styles, create macros, analyze data, protect files, customize toolbars, and collaborate through shared workbooks and consolidated data.  This workshop assumes a working knowledge of Excel (how to create columns and rows, format cells, and use basic formulas)
Google Drive (AE206)
Learn how to use your NOVA Gmail account to access and use Google Drive for creating and sharing documents, spreadsheet, and presentations.
HTML & CSS (AA159)
HTML is the foundational grammar of the World Wide Web.  Together with CSS, HTML provides the backbone for all web pages.  In this class, we'll introduce the core concepts of web design an dHTML that are applicable across a wide array of disciplines and web-based endeavors.  We'll structure the workshop around the construction of a simple, three-page website.
Photoshop I (AE206)
This workshop will explore the facets of Photoshop.  When you are finished, you will be able to manipulate your photos in less than 15 minutes!
PowerPoint Basics (AE206)
Learn the basics of creating presentations using Microsoft Office.  This workshop covers creating, formatting, saving and sharing presentations, inserting pictures and tables, and ways to make your presentation more visually appealing.
PowerPoint Advanced (AE206)
This advanced workshop builds on PowerPoint Basics.  This workshop covers creating, formatting, saving and sharing presentations, inserting pictures and tables, and ways to make your presentation more visually appealing.
Prezi (AE206)
Prezi is an engaging, cloud-based presentation and storytelling tool that allows easy collaboration and sharing across a variety of devices.  If you're interested in a slick and easy alternative to PowerPoint, you need to check out Prezi.
Programming Basics (AA159)
Learn programming through exploring different programming languages.  This workshop covers basic object oriented programming, including variables, functions, selection structures, loops and printing the screen.
Windows is Your Friend (AE206)
Have you ever wished that there was a button on your keyboard that you could press and "magic" would happen?  Well, you are almost there. Learn fun little shortcuts and general tips and tricks that can help you get around Windows.

Want to be able to share your videos with your professors, classmates, friends, and family?  Uploading videos to YouTube is a quick process from either your mobile device or from your computer.  Participate in the workshop and have your video online in just a few minutes.
YouTube for Research (AE206)
Learn how to use YouTube for more than just entertainment.  You'll learn about some fun and informative YouTube channels that can help you understand concepts in a number of disciplines such as math, science, and history.  Make playlists that you can fill with useful resources and much more.
