Twitter Reactions: Australian team accused of not playing with the right spirit: Australia are playing New Zealand at home in the Test series and at the moment are in more control of the proceedings. Though the second match at the WACA looks set for a draw they will continue to have a lead in the series. But all is not going well for the Australian team as they are accused of not playing with the best of cricketing spirits.

The incident being discussed is when New Zealander Ross Taylor was dismissed by off-spinner Nathan Lyon on 290 and the Kiwi batsman walked back after playing a splendid innings. It is so often rather a regular practice that we see the opposition fielders walk to the batsmen and congratulate them for the knock they managed to play despite the pain they face due to it and that is what the ‘spirit of cricket’ is and is one of the reasons cricket is still termed the gentleman’s game.

Former Netherlands and Australian cricketer Dirk Nannes at Grandstand’s coverage of the 4th day at the WACA was critical and said the Aussies displayed “horrendous sportsmanship”. He was further quoted saying, “Probably the biggest disappointment of that session is that after the innings, he’s made 290, not one person from the Australian camp went and shook his hand,”

He added, “In the spirit of the way this game has been played, and the game before, with the exception of that one incident with Mitchell Starc, I can’t help but be disappointed that nobody went out to him and shook his hand.”

The world noticed and criticized Steve Smith & Co. on Twitter, here are the Twitter Reactions:
