While freedom of expression and a spirit of equality and togetherness sit at the heart of trance music, Israel is anything but to Palestinians whose daily lives are subject to an apartheid system that subjugates them and denies them the basic rights and freedoms to mobility, education, and to live on their lands (among other denied rights). Trance culture much like other activities, has been used as a weapon to normalize Israel's image as well as turn attention away from It's true character as an occupier, oppressor and violator of human rights.  

As you know, music cannot be isolated from politics. A visit to Israel, particularly now, is viewed by Israel, and internationally, as implicit support for Israeli policies and indifference to the victims of Israeli crimes. A performance in Israel, regardless of intentions, helps Israel cover up its violations of international law, and international humanitarian law.

It is no longer uncommon to find artists, academics, politicians as well as civilians taking a stand firm against Israel's racist policies. In artist circles, several musicians have responded to the Palestinian Civil Society 2005 Call for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) against Israel as a reaction to its occupation, apartheid and denial of Palestinian refugees their fundamental right to return to their homes, as stipulated in UN resolution 194. Afrojack should follow in the steps of Roger Waters (of Pink Flyod), Gorillaz Sound System, Elvis Costello, Gil Scott-Heron, Carlos Santana, Bono/U2, Devandra Banhart, among others, who have refrained from performing in Israel. A performance in Israel will not only mean that Afrojack is complicit of Israel's racist policies but will also be used as badly needed support for its system of repression in the face of increasing international isolation.
