It was reported earlier this month that Verizon was getting ready to close yet another loophole that let those grandfathered into unlimited data, keep their plan. Basically how it worked was you’d buy a phone, put it on a feature phone line and add a data package. Then you’d activate it on the unlimited data line a week or so later. Then your feature phone line would drop back down to the price it was on before, usually $9.99. However, according to Droid Life, as of yesterday, that loophole has been closed, unfortunately.
Basically what Verizon has done is made it so that you have to keep that data package on your account for the length of the contract. So if you buy a phone on a 2-year contract, you’ll have that data plan for 2 years on that line as well. Essentially making the loophole, useless. So technically the loophole is still there, but you’re going to be paying even more for your “feature phone” line. An extra $30/month at least. Which almost makes it not worth it.
That’s one more loop hole that Verizon is tied up for grandfathered unlimited data customers. Verizon is trying to get people off of these unlimited plans pretty quickly. After all they did get rid of unlimited over 2 years ago, and there’s still a good percentage of customers on that unlimited plan. So it looks like unlimited data customers are going to have to pay full price for their phones now if they want to keep their unlimited data plan. It’s not the best thing in the world. But it’s still better than being on a tiered data plan, at least in my eyes. How many of you out there still have unlimited data on Verizon?
