Benjamin Britten’s Aldeburgh – Part 1

(This is take two of the post I tried to post yesterday!)

Last weekend Joanna visited and we went for a walk around Aldeburgh, following one of the AA’s walking routes which calls it, “a beautiful walk around thriving Aldeburgh in the footsteps of Britain’s best known composer and the town’s most famous resident, Benjamin Brittin.” (maybe true on the second count, but I hadn’t actually heard of him before, or recognise his music I’ve since it looked up!)

Click the photos to see them on the map. Don’t actually try to follow these abridged instructions, you might end up in Timbuktu!

"Start at Slaughden Quay, once a thriving port...turn left along the river wall on the north bank of the River Alde"

Views over the marshy fields behind the river wall

"When the river bends left, keep straight across a meadow"

"When you see a footpath on the right, turn left and then immediately right on a permissive path that follows the trackbed of an old railway"

"Turn right at a junction of paths to cross the North Warren nature reserve, with views of Sizewell power station (and the House in the Clouds!-Lucy) to your left"

“Cross the road and turn right along the beach…” and wait for the next leg of the walk’s description and photos! See Part 2
