Industry offering Rapid Renewal

1 min read

INDUSTRY — Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap has announced that the Town of Industry has launched Rapid Renewal, the Department of the Secretary of State’s online service for the renewal of motor vehicle registrations.

Rapid Renewal is an e-commerce service allowing citizens to conduct business with municipal government and state government in one seamless online transaction. Rapid Renewal has gained national acclaim and has been enthusiastically embraced by Mainers. While municipal participation in Rapid Renewal is optional, the service has now grown to 210 municipalities and has seen more than 1,201,685 transactions processed to date. The Town of Industry will accept payments via e-check and credit card.

The Rapid Renewal service is currently offered by cities and towns from York County to Aroostook County, with populations ranging from Glenwood Plantation’s three citizens to more than 64,000 in Portland. Through Rapid Renewal, citizens are able to quickly and easily renew their vehicle registrations and pay their municipal excise taxes online, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Rapid Renewal may be accessed through www.sosonline.org, the Secretary of State’s site for online services.

Municipal officials who would like more information about participating in Rapid Renewal are encouraged to contact the Department of the Secretary of State at 626-8400 or by email at sos.office@maine.gov.

  1. Yes!!!! This will make it so much easier to get our vehicles registered and to pay takes.

  2. If the Town of Chesterville would step up to the plate and do this, what a cost savings for everyone. For those who work hours that make it difficult to get to the town office they would be able to reregister everything on line, without losing time from work. With that being said, the town office would not need to be open 5 days a week. Cutting back those hours would save on heat, lights and electricity, as well as payroll. I understand that there is a cost to having this program added to the trio program the town uses, but that would be paid back in a relatively short period of time.
    Just food for thought

  3. Is it true that there is a fee for using this service? Was told by someone that used their debit card to pay taxes it showed a 3% fee? Can anyone answer this, please. Thank you

  4. Why doesn’t my town offer credit cards as a payment option?

The payment option is decided by each municipality. With credit cards, there is a merchant fee that is taken from the excise tax. Because the excise tax belongs to the town, they decide whether or not to offer this as a payment option.
