Nate Burleson, Cleveland Browns reach one-year deal

Nate Burleson will stay in the Midwest, but the veteran wide receiver will be switching conferences.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Sunday that the pass-catcher has agreed to terms with the Cleveland Browns on a one-year contract, according to a source involved. The team later confirmed the deal.

Burleson caught 39 passes for one score in nine games last season for the Detroit Lions, but it was breaking his arm in an October car accident as the result of mishandling a pizza that will be remembered in the Motor City for years to come.

The Browns enjoyed a busy but fruitful free agency period, with former Bengals wide receiver Andrew Hawkins among their key acquisitions. There is no guarantee Burleson will make the team, but expect the 32-year-old to compete for a slice of playing time -- namely what would appear to be Greg Little's No. 3 receiver spot.

Now if Cleveland can iron out its issues with transition tagged Pro Bowl center Alex Mack and solidify its situation under center by the preseason, new general manager Ray Farmer will be a happy man.
