Robert Duffy
Robert J. Duffy (born August 21, 1954, in Rochester, N.Y.) was the 76th Lieutenant Governor of New York. A Democrat, he was elected on a ticket with Andrew Cuomo on November 2, 2010, and sworn into office on January 1, 2011.[1]
Although he was eligible for a second term as lieutenant governor, Duffy declined to run for re-election in 2014 and retired from office on January 1, 2015. He was succeeded by Kathy Hochul (D), whom Cuomo chose as Duffy's replacement on the 2014 ticket.[2]
Prior to becoming lieutenant governor, Duffy served as Rochester's chief of police from 1998 to 2005. After that, he was then elected Mayor of Rochester, serving in the role through 2010.[1]
Biography
Duffy was an officer with the Rochester Police Department from 1976 to 2005. He served as deputy chief of police from 1992 to 1998 and as chief of police from 1998 to 2005. In 2005 he entered politics when he was elected as the mayor of Rochester.[1]

Political career
New York Lieutenant Governor (2011-2015)
Duffy served one term as New York Lieutenant Governor from 2011 to 2015. He was first elected on a ticket with Andrew Cuomo in 2010, and assumed office the following January. Duffy opted not to seek re-election as lieutenant governor in 2014, and retired from office January 1, 2015. He was succeeded by Kathy Hochul, Cuomo's pick for Duffy's replacement in the 2014 elections.[2]
Mayor of Rochester (2006–2011)
Duffy served as the Mayor of Rochester, New York, from January 1, 2006, to January 1, 2011.
Elections
2014
Duffy announced in May 2014 that he would retire as Lieutenant Governor of New York after his first term. Cuomo selected former congresswoman Kathy Hochul to take Duffy's place on the ticket, and they won in the general election on November 4, 2014. Hochul succeeded Duffy on January 1, 2015.
2010
Duffy ran on a ticket with Andrew Cuomo in 2010. Duffy defeated Gregory Edwards (R), Alden Link (L), Gloria Mattera (G), Tanya Gendelman (Anti-Prohibition) and Eva Doyle (Freedom) in the general election on November 2, 2010.
