Jack White and A Tribe Called Quest’s Q-Tip stun MSG with ferocious melding of rap and rock — watch

Friday night marked Jack White’s return to Madison Square Garden for the first time since playing there with The White Stripes in 2007. Making up for lost time, the rocker blitzed the 18,000-person capacity crowd with a ferocious 21-song set that included material from his two solo albums as well as The White Stripes and The Raconteurs.

The night’s big highlight, however, came during the encore when White invited A Tribe Called Quest’s Q-Tip to the stage. Together, they performed White’s Lazaretto track “That Black Bat Licorice” before launching into Tribe’s classic “Excursions”. Watch fan-shot footage below.

White and Q-Tip wasn’t the only rap-rock performance to go down at MSG last night: During Run the Jewels’ opening set, Rage Against the Machine frontman Zach de la Rocha guested for “Close Your Eyes (And Count to Fuck)”. Really puts into context just how awful the whole Jay Z-Linkin Park thing was, eh?
