Pennsylvania Environmental Resource Consortium (PERC)
Student Sustainability Symposium: SUSTAINABILITY IN ACTION
Hosted by: Bucknell University, Lewisburg, Pennsylvania
Friday, March 27, 2015
Undergraduate and graduate students of Pennsylvania colleges and universities are invited to submit proposals for presentations, posters, and round table discussions for the Pennsylvania Environmental Resource Consortium (PERC) 2015 Student Sustainability Symposium. The Symposium will provide an opportunity for students to present their sustainability-related research, co-curricular projects, creative works, action projects and community initiatives, and to network with students across the state to promote sustainability collaborations. This year's Symposium will focus on Sustainability in Action: how students have taken and will continue to take action into the future to make their campuses more sustainable.
The deadline for abstract proposal submission is February 28, 2015. Notifications of acceptance will be sent by March 6th, 2015.
Proposals must have clear connections to sustainability, which may include social, economic and/or environmental dimensions. Priority will be given to proposals from students attending PERC Member Institutions, but proposals are welcome from students of other institutions as well. Students may submit up to one proposal for each category described below (presentation, poster, round table discussion). Students may be listed as a co-author on proposals submitted by others.
Presentations:
Presentation sessions will be scheduled between 9:30 am and 4 pm on Friday, March 27. Presenters will have 8 minutes to speak (and 5 minutes following for Q & A). Presentations are strongly encouraged to have a "What you plan to do next" or "Action items" section in alignment with the day's theme.
Posters:
Accepted posters will be displayed during the Symposium on Friday, March 27. Poster authors are expected to stand next to and present their posters during the designated poster session. All presenters are to set up their posters from 8:30 - 9:00 am. Posters may be submitted on any sustainability themed project or student research.
Roundtable Discussions:
It is expected that each student would provide a small number of focused discussion questions and intended outcomes and facilitate a 30-minute discussion. Action-oriented topics are encouraged in alignment with the day's theme.
