Now, a Marathi film on the lines of Jurassic Park and Godzilla
As reported by us earlier, the Marathi industry is increasingly implementing VFX and animation technology in films.
Keeping up with this trend, an upcoming film titled 'Yashwanti' will follow the footsteps of 'Ajoba', 'Fandry' and 'Mhadu' by making a major use of the technology in it. Many scenes in the film required the use of VFX, given the fact that we are recreating a specific animal in it, informed Nikhil Bhagat, producer of the film.
Based on the historic battle of Sinhagad, the film has been set in the modern times. There is only a small reference to the battle. Our film is mostly about the threats faced by Sinhagad in the present day, added Bhagat.
What connects the films topic with the historic event is the presence of Yashwanti, a monitor lizard, which according to a legend, was used by the Maratha general Tanaji Malusare to scale a vertical cliff to reach Sinhagad with his army and capture the fort. The subject is something every Maharashtrian is familiar with and can connect to, said Jalindar Kumbhar, director of the film.
The film will see the monitor lizard, being recreated using VFX and she will be the characters connect with the past, guiding them in their mission. It is for the first time that something of this sort is being done in the Marathi industry. We are using 3D effects to recreate a living animal, much like 'Jurassic Park' and 'Godzilla', added Jalindar, who has been associated with TV shows like 'Anubandh' starring Sai Tamhankar and 'Lajja' starring Girija Oak.
Actor Amey Wagh will play the lead role along with Suparna Shyam, who makes her debut in Marathi cinema with this film. The shooting is expected to start somewhere around November. On being questioned about his role, Amey said, I am playing the protagonist who takes up the task of saving the fort from the problems it faces. History has been portrayed in a contemporary way in this film.
