The layoff notices will extend across several divisions, the company confirmed, noting that some of those affected may find other positions at Boeing.
Boeing will issue layoff notices to about 100 employees in Washington state Friday.
The 60-day notices will go out to 16 employees in the Commercial Airplanes division, with the remainder going to people in the defense division and various corporate units reporting to company headquarters in Chicago, said spokesman Doug Alder.
According to employees, the layoffs will include some staff in the flight test unit at Boeing Field.
The layoff notices are required by law but it’s possible that not all those who receive them will be laid off at the end of the two-month deadline.

“In many cases, employees find another job in the company or someone else retires or moves on,” said Alder.
Earlier this year, Boeing offered voluntary buyouts to selected workers in a bid to dramatically cut costs.
Boeing said at the time that it would resort to layoffs only if the necessary cost savings were not achieved, and would first try to make reductions through the buyouts and attrition.
Boeing issued just over 200 layoff notices in early June, the first such notices this year, and another 100 later that month.
At the end of July, Boeing employed almost 75,700 people in the state, down more than 3,500 since Jan. 1.
