Sunday night's 2016 MTV Video Music Awards brought forth most of the biggest names in pop culture -- Kanye West, Kim Kardashian, Beyoncé, Britney Spears, Rihanna and Drake were all there -- but there was one major star that was noticeably absent: Taylor Swift.

Though many assumed that Swift skipped the ceremony to avoid her nemesis, West -- who was given four minutes by MTV to do whatever he wanted during the ceremony and, of course, addressed their feud -- it appears as though she actually skipped the VMAs for a completely unexpected and unrelated reason.

Taylor Swift had jury duty.

That's right, even huge celebrities have civic duties, and it seems as though Swift was summoned to the courthouse on Monday in Nashville to see if she would be selected as a jury member. Though something tells us that she won't ultimately be chosen to serve, Swift's unrelenting fulfillment of her duties as a citizen are definitely commendable.

A couple of her fellow potential jury members took to Twitter to share selfies with the star, expressing disbelief that she was even there.

Swift appeared to be all smiles in an all-black ensemble and even rocked a "JUROR" name tag, as if anyone there didn't already know who she was.
