Madame Magenta: Libros Mystica 4**** - One4Review
one4review | On 19, Aug 2014
Madam disclosed to us at the start of the show that she’d lost much of her music during a technical meltdown earlier in the Fringe. If that is indeed the case, I’m even more impressed, because this did not feel like an empty hour.
There is a solid comedic foundation on which this show is built, even if at times you’re 110 floors away from that foundation. There is a structure running through (though a subtle one), holding things together and making for some excellent funny. I especially liked the thinking-person’s erotica and the poem about the potato. There was also some bibliomancy.
Madam Magenta’s effusive personality fills the room, and her blunt observations are turned on herself as well as the audience so it never feels insulting. Nothing sounds rehearsed, and the whole thing is a little like a tipsy afternoon with your eccentric great aunt. (Is that a simile?) Wonderfully erratic.
