Frequent critical errors
by guver on Thursday November 30th 2017, 11:35
Often a critical error message appears, after which the game ends. There are also problems with rendering textures and characters. Some characters may be completely invisible, some may be an unusual color (for example, yellow).
Most often, departures occur after cut-scenes, especially if you skip this scene.

Shadow maps don't show up.
by Blake Gripling on Friday September 2nd 2011, 4:42
OK, so I finally made the game work, but my only issue with the game had something to do with them shadow maps. They don't appear at all, although gameplay isn't that affected. Can it be fixed via Winetricks or something?
Crashes on my Wine install.
by Blake Gripling on Tuesday August 30th 2011, 8:59
I can start the game and browse through the menus, but whenever I begin a new game or access the Carcyclopedia the game crashes and throws out an unhandled exception:

wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000000 at address (nil) (thread 0009), starting debugger...

IDK if it's because I'm using Skidrow's version (since I'm using the said exe to run DLC mods) or if there's something wrong with my wine config.

NVM, the game runs on 1.3.27.
Lockup
by daniel on Thursday November 18th 2010, 11:47
I was able to get the game to work several weeks ago using the instructions for the last post in this thread:

forum.winehq.org/viewtopic.php?p=47885&sid=7e7fa8693d39bd6e0558565f3d5efa35

And I was able to play Mafia 2 for several days afterwards. However, now when I go in game and actually try to start a game, be it Jimmy's Vendetta or the regular main game it locks up. For both, it will lock up right when you select the difficulty level. I have reinstalled Linux Mint, Steam, Mafia 2, etc and I still get the same issue. My video card drivers the same I used when it was working (current), so I cannot figure it out. Wine was not updated during that period.
RE: Lockup
by Türklinke on Wednesday December 8th 2010, 8:08
Can confirm it totally. No idea how to solve it. Also tried to deactivate Steam overlay, doesn't change anything... just bought joes adventure and can't play...

Don't install update no. 3 and use at most Wine 1.3.7
Crashes upon start up
by daniel on Wednesday October 6th 2010, 21:49
Anyone else have a problem with Mafia 2 crashing as it launches? In either full screen or windowed, as soon as the logo leaves the screen and its about to make the transition it dies.

Any work around? Did any one else have this problem before?
thanks

Happens to me with ATI card.

I'm on a 460 GTX. I thought it might have something to do with Pyshx but no luck in playing around with it. Anyone else figure this out?
Registry Keys
by lobster on Wednesday September 8th 2010, 4:42
Hello! Where can I find and change this keys?
"
DirectDrawRenderer = opengl
Multisampling = enabled
Nonpower2Mode = repack
OffscreenRenderingMode = fbo (backbuffer renders incorrectly)
RenderTargetLockMode = readtex
UseGLSL = disabled
VertexShaderMode = hardware
"
I installed M2 under Windows, but M2 could be running without registry keys. (under another Windows copy for example)
I need to install my Mafia2 under linux one more time to get access throught regedit.exe?

PS Sorry for bad English) Its not my mother tongue)

New drivers made huge impact on FPS
by Glenn McClelland on Tuesday September 7th 2010, 19:03
Just installed NVIDIA's new Beta drivers (260.19.04)

I've gone from 5-7fps up to 12-15fps. Much nicer.
Unplayable
by T.Kijas on Sunday September 5th 2010, 16:39
Game unplayable due to steam update, please confirm it. Bug 24096
RE: Unplayable
by Yore on Sunday September 5th 2010, 16:42
Set gameoverlayrenderer to disabled in your winecfg. It "fix" that bug.
RE: Unplayable
by T.Kijas on Sunday September 5th 2010, 18:20
Confirmed, thanks
RE: Unplayable

FBO and Backbuffer
by Yore on Sunday September 5th 2010, 12:18
When you use OffscreenRenderingMode=fbo in the Direct3D regedit option (default option) the game is slow and unplayable. But when you change fbo to backbuffer, FPS are ok but there is a lot of graphics errors and the game is, again, unplayable.
RE: FBO and Backbuffer
by T.Kijas on Sunday September 5th 2010, 18:33
yeah, one wrote here that after set UseGLSL=disabled helps but... I cannot see any difference, the game is still painfully slow...
RE: FBO and Backbuffer
by Jari Vetoniemi on Tuesday September 7th 2010, 8:07
UseGLSL=Disabled, is for Nvidia binary drivers only, somehow their ARB functions are faster than GLSL.
RE: FBO and Backbuffer
by Yore on Tuesday September 7th 2010, 8:15
Yes, set UseGLSL to disabled increase the FPS. But it still low in some scenes.
RE: FBO and Backbuffer
by stee1rat on Tuesday September 7th 2010, 10:10
So, have you setup your game finally? I got the same problems as you. With backbuffer set i can see only a 20% of normal game. Is there a way to avoid this ?
RE: FBO and Backbuffer
by T.Kijas on Wednesday September 8th 2010, 5:11
Well I have NVIDIA drivers but it doesn't work faster according to benchmark (8.1fps, 800x600, low) :) but it is playable.

by T.Kijas on Friday September 3rd 2010, 20:13
Well, I was suscesfull just on 1st run, another ends in hang of the game just before NVIDIA video and nothing else... do anyone know how to setup videoconfig.cfg to run this properly? 24 24 1024 768 0 0 0 1 doesn't seem right to me. I use NVIDIA 9600GT, latest stable drivers...
No sound ?
by ZeXx86 on Monday August 30th 2010, 2:18
When you dont hear anything, try to update/install your OpenAL 32bit library, it is used by Mafia 2.
RE: No sound ?
by T.Kijas on Sunday September 5th 2010, 18:34
Well, I think I have the latest, I have 1.12.854... what do you think?
RE: No sound ?
by T.Kijas on Sunday September 5th 2010, 19:27
OK, no sound resolved - installed steam with game in clean prefix (e.g. using PlayOnLinux) and setup openal using oalsoft-conf -> blacklisted pulseaudio (I do not use it), disabled mmap, set-up speakers to stereo.
RE: No sound ?
by Yore on Tuesday September 7th 2010, 10:42
To get sound working set mmdevapi library to disabled. It's the same issue than Borderlands or StarCraft II.
RE: No sound ?
by T.Kijas on Wednesday September 8th 2010, 5:37
Sorry, wanted to say "now sound resolved" :)
Hi
by T.Kijas on Sunday August 29th 2010, 3:55
Hi,have you tried the howto from demo to run the game? It is shipped with steam on DVD isn't it?
RE: Hi
by Dominik Sanfilippo on Sunday August 29th 2010, 5:35
Ok i tried and now i can play the game, but the video scenes are crappy and the ingame speed is terrible.
RE: Hi
by T.Kijas on Sunday August 29th 2010, 6:14
Slow gaming is the same issue as in demo but the crappy videos are new issue :/
could you please vote for this game?
And if you can, please upload screenshot of video scene...

How did you get past this paste2.org/p/971975
RE: Hi
by lyon on Wednesday September 1st 2010, 17:21
See the link for bug #23964. You can recompile wine 1.3.1 with that mentioned line commented out, or just copy in-game profile from another machine.
RE: Hi
by Domen Kožar on Wednesday September 1st 2010, 19:41
I did,

$ pwd
/home/ielectric/.wine/drive_c/users/ielectric/Local Settings/Application Data/2K Games/Mafia II/Saves
$ cat videoconfig.cfg
24 24 1280 800 0 0 0 1
RE: Hi
by lyon on Thursday September 2nd 2010, 3:25
Creating videoconfig.cfg file was not enough to me. I had to copy whole "2K Games" directory.
RE: Hi
by Domen Kožar on Thursday September 2nd 2010, 7:22
Hey, can you rar it upload it somewhere?
RE: Hi
by T.Kijas on Saturday September 4th 2010, 1:10
I plead too for the rar or tgz archive, I have problems with it too.
