New Delhi: With cases of crime against women and children on the rise, the Delhi government has announced that it will soon install streetlights at dark spots in east and north Delhi.
A senior official said no-objection certificates has been received from both the corporations. “A detailed survey had been done by PWD to identify dark spots on roads in both the areas and work will commence shortly,” said the official.

Under the survey, 124 dark spots were identified in east Delhi municipal area while around 7,304 in the North Delhi area. Identification of dark spot and installation of street light in such areas was a major poll promise of AAP. “PWD will install around 82 poles in the east Delhi and 3,686 poles in the north Delhi areas. The department also plans to install 124 LED lights in the east Delhi and around 7,304 LED lights in the north Delhi area,” said an official.
Sources said the department is expecting the illumination work to get completed by the end of this year. “In east Delhi, PWD will install the lights within 3-4 months while in the north Delhi, there are several spots which are dark therefore, will take longer. It will take nearly 5-6 months for the work to end. Use of LED lights will also help in reducing the overall electricity consumption. Since PWD is yet to receive an NOC from the south Delhi municipal corporation, the plans for that area have not been drawn,” said an official.
