In meet with MLAs, AAP govt to prepare summer plan to tackle water scarcity

This will include creating a blueprint on water supply by identifying ‘dark or black spots’, after the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) zeroes in on areas where water scarcity is critical, said an official.

In a four-day meeting with its MLAs from March 9-12 , the Delhi government is set to prepare its summer action plan on the city’s water supply.

This will include creating a blueprint on water supply by identifying ‘dark or black spots’, after the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) zeroes in on areas where water scarcity is critical, said an official.

Water supply in the city has been disrupted more than two times this year due to rise in ammonia levels in the Yamuna and the damage done to the Munak Canal during the Jat agitation for reservation.

Officials said all MLAs will have to bring a report on the state of water supply in their respective areas and those worst hit by the crisis.

“These points will be discussed and collated by officials. All data will be compiled to prepare the blueprint. We do not have data for the entire city as of now. This will help us ensure that water is provided to areas that are not dependent on water tankers,” said an official.
He added, “We have done some exercises on this. Areas with maximum scarcity of water are identified on the basis of calls made to the central room and regional complaint centres. We have taken data from 2013 and 2014 as the basis for identifying such areas. The board has witnessed a fall in complaints by 37 per cent,” added the official.

Festive offer

Sources said the areas categorised as facing critical water shortage include Paschim Vihar, Mangolpuri, Greater Kailash, R K Puram, Chhatarpur and Kewal Park.
