Armed robbery, Atherton

Detectives have charged a man following the armed robbery of a service station in Atherton this morning.

Police will allege just after 5am a man entered the business armed with a knife and demanded money from the operator.

He allegedly stole cash and the till before fleeing the scene on foot.

Police conducted patrols of the area and located a man nearby who was taken into custody.

Officers were assisted by the SES in locating the weapon and stolen property.

A 30-year-old Herberton man has been charged with armed robbery.

He is due to appear in Mareeba Magistrates Court tomorrow, August 26.
