INTERVIEW: A Darker Color Bright

Hi ADCB, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hi, Thank you for having me. I’ve been busy.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Missing You”?

Sure, I came up the words to “Missing You” while I was driving during a cold winter day about someone I love very much that I had not seen in a painfully long time.  I was listening to a collection of instrumentals compiled of some ideas I was playing with at the time, and “Missing You” just came out.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

Not really anything in particular, I would say more of a group of events surrounding my memories with one individual.

How was the film experience?

Filming the video was an intense learning experience to say the least. We shot on a very tight schedule, and even tighter entirely independent budget. It was also my first time directing which was eye opening to say the least.  I think the best thing was seeing the crew kick so much ass. The team of people behind this video is incredible. Everyone involved form the camera crew, actors, lighting dept, editing, ect. Everyone really put a lot of effort in and I can’t thank them enough for that.

The single comes off your new album adcbep1 – what’s the story behind the title?

“What’s in a name” haha,. I wanted to keep the EP title simple, and numerical, as I intend to release multiple versions of each EP. I felt the idea worked well with the ADCB concept overall.

How was the recording and writing process?

I love recording and writing. To me, It’s not really a process as much as a life style. I literally write lines and instrumentals daily. For example, I’ll be sitting at a stop light taping beats on my steering wheel to the tempo of my blinker. Then later go in the studio and write an entire instrumental around that cadence just to get it out of my head.

Mind if I ask, why have you to stay anonymous?

I would rather the project be know for the content rather than putting attention on me. It doesn’t matter who I am. To me, what matters is how this art is interpreted on your side. How does it make you feel? Is it intriguing to you? Being anonymous helps keep the attention focused on what’s important, which is the project and the music. I don’t care about being noticed. I just want to put the music I make out to the world.

How does all this mystery influence you musically?

I think it truly gives me the freedom to create what ever I want without reservation. I don’t have to change myself to fit a style, gimmick or a look. I can just make and release what I choose. I could  do a folk album if I want, just because fuck it I can!! HAHA.

Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?

Life.

Any plans to hit the road?

Indeed. Lots of exciting planning happening right now. Stay tuned.

What else is happening next in A Darker Color Bright’s world?

All I can say right now is wait and see. I’m constantly working on new material and I’m itching to release some new things that are very close to being complete.
