Bronx senator slow to fix zoning violation: report

State Sen. Jeff Klein is still operating a law office in a residential neighborhood more than two years after The Post revealed he was violating the zoning code.

The Post reported in March 2012 that the city Buildings Department had slapped Klein’s law practice with a violation and fine for “illegal conversion” of the house at 1614 Williamsbridge Road in The Bronx into office space.

Klein and his partners bought the two-family home in 2005. At the time, Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester), who co-chairs the state Senate, said he had hired a lawyer to obtain the necessary approvals.

But he hasn’t, The Riverdale Press reported after reviewing updated records. Now officials are cracking down.

A city spokesman said the property is “under review by our padlock enforcement unit.”

Klein said Tuesday that he’s trying to comply but it “takes time. It’s a very lengthy process and as soon as we found out that the fine we paid didn’t suffice, we hired an attorney and we’re dealing with it as we speak. It’s a very expensive, lengthy process.”
