PHS Speech and Debate Team Takes Home Trophies….Again!

The Piedmont High School Speech and Debate Team participated in their second tournament of the season, a Public Forum style Debate at James Logan High School last weekend and did extremely well. The topic debated was whether public subsidies for professional athletic organizations in the United States benefit their local communities.

Piedmont brought four teams and three of the four teams won trophies. The team of Krysia Olszewska and Henry Hopcraft took a first place trophy for winning all of their debates. The teams of Bryn Lawson and Will Reicher and Joseph Chan and Veronica Wong took second place winning three out of four debates. The team of Alex Rickard and Victoria Hou had very strong debates winning two out of four debates.

The Piedmont High Speech and Debate Team meets after school twice a week in Ms. Black's Room, Room 30. Wednesdays are 5:30 to 6:30 and Fridays are 5:00 to 6:00.
