We, the undersigned, respectfully request that Paul Schwindt receive the MAXIMUM PENALTY ALLOWED for the kidnapping and brutal mutilation of Pip the cat.

Kingston Police arrested 23-year-old Paul Alexander Schwindt and charged him with a number of offenses related to the April 21st theft and killing of Pip in the city’s west end.

Schwindt brazenly took the cat in broad daylight from its owner’s property – located near the corner of Collins Bay Road and Taylor-Kidd Boulevard – where it had been tied with a leash.

Schwindt has admitted to this particular violent crime but over the last few years many animals have disappeared from this area and the remains of mutilated cats and a dog have been found in a nearby park.  There is video evidence of Schwindt dumping cat related property at the same park.

He had been previously spotted in the area shaking a bag of cat treats in an attempt to coerce other victims.

Following a police investigation, it was determined that reasonable and probably grounds existed to charge Paul Alexander Schwindt with Killing an Animal, Causing Unnecessary Suffering to an Animal, Theft Under $5,000, and Breach of Officer-in-Charge Undertaking

The abuse of an animal is often the first indicator of domestic violence. A criminal who abuses animals exhibits disdain for life and a willingness to target and abuse the most defenseless of creatures.

Most recently is the horrific death of the child, Tori Stafford; Her killer Terri-Lynne McClintic admitted that in her youth she killed a dog in a microwave. Animal torture by young people is considered by forensic psychiatrists as a indication of adult psychopathic behavior.  A harsher punishment for the cruelty to animals is an essential step in protecting the community.
