ROCKPORT — History was made at the Rockport polls today, June 14, when 98 write-in votes were cast for Rockport Police Chief Mark Kelley to be on the town’s Budget Committee.

“He broke the record,” said Rockport Town Clerk Linda Greenlaw, after all the write-in votes were counted, verified, and double-checked.

Kelley is due to retire July 1, after 30 years on the Rockport Police Department, 19 of them as chief.

He is currently on vacation, traveling through Montana, somewhere east of Glacier National Park. He is riding his motorcycle around the country with another Rockport resident, Phil Brown.

He said late Tuesday night that he’d likely serve on the committee.

“I’d be foolish not to continue my work for the town,” said Kelley.
