Lauzon says he plans to sue city of Biddeford
Claims former police officer sexually abused him
A man who alleges he was sexually assaulted by a former Biddeford police officer in the 1990s says he will take legal action against the city.
Matt Lauzon spoke during public comment during Tuesday's city council meeting and said he planned to file a lawsuit against the city of Biddeford. He alleges he was sexually abused by a former city officer as a teen.
In May, Lauzon told WMTW he planned to file a civil lawsuit against the police department, arguing that officials in the department may have looked the other way.
During Tuesday night's meeting, he said he wanted city officials accountable.
"I am committing to you right now that we will bring the best and heaviest lawsuit with so much evidence that you haven't seen or fathom, because you, the mayor, refuse to look at it. And you will be forced to, under oath, tell the truth," Lauzon said.
The Maine Attorney General's Office has confirmed it is investigating a claim of sexual assault involving a former Biddeford police officer and teen boy from the late 1990s.
The attorney general's office did not name the officer involved or identify the alleged victim. It has also said preliminary evidence shows no wrongdoing by the police department.
Calls to Biddeford Mayor Alan Casavant were not immediately returned.
