Dear 2016 HBA Southern California members,

We are enjoying an amazing 2016 thanks to our excellent chapter leaders and dedicated volunteers. Now it is time to recruit leaders for open positions for next year’s chapter board.

For 2017, we have the following chapter board seats open:

  • President
  • President-elect
  • Vice president
  • Secretary
  • Directors at large:
    • Corporate relations
    • Programs (mentoring)
    • Volunteer engagement

A brief description with key responsibilities for all chapter board roles can be found here. Please note: as of 2016, candidates for an executive committee role must have served in a director at large role on a chapter board in the past.

Newly created leadership positions 2017-2018:
In addition to the traditional chapter board roles, a number of new leadership opportunities are being created as the HBA evolves its operating model to expand our reach and offerings. Unlike current chapter board roles, this new collection of leadership roles will focus on a specific area of expertise (e.g. volunteer awards, accounting) while working with/across a number of different chapters in a designated geographic region.

These “regional” leadership and committee roles will be better defined as we move into the fall and begin our organizational expansion for 2017-2018. Some positions will be put in place early 2017, others later in the year. Regardless, we wanted to make you aware of them as you consider a leadership role that best addresses your needs and interests. A preliminary list of the regional roles defined so far is available here.

Nominations are due by Monday, August 15. Candidates will be contacted for interviews after this date.

We look forward to receiving your nominations for either the traditional chapter board positions or any of the newly/evolving regional positions. Surely you know a number of phenomenal HBA members who would make incredible leaders – nominate them. And, please consider which of these leadership opportunities might best address your own personal career aspirations and nominate yourself.

If you are not sure which role might be best for you, or you want additional information before formally nominating yourself or another, please complete the submission form and indicate “would like additional information” on the form and someone from the nomination committee will follow up with you.

Candidate criteria:
When thinking about nominations (of yourself or someone else), please consider the following criteria which are important to maintaining an effective and representative leadership team.

  • Familiarity with the HBA, gained through volunteering and/or attending events
  • Ability to commit the time/resources needed to fulfill responsibilities of a chapter board member
  • Experience working in the healthcare industry
  • Proven dedication/support of the HBA’s core purpose and vision
  • Specific skillset needed by the board (e.g., fundraising, event planning)
  • Strong and demonstrated leadership, influencing and other team skills
  • Energy, ideas and enthusiasm to positively influence the advancement of women
  • Previous experience on a non-profit board

Thank you in advance for your contribution. Please send your completed nominations or questions to Rose Ryder by Monday, August 15. The nominating committee will respond to all nominations by Friday, September 16.

Sincerely,

2016 HBA Southern California board nominating committee
