CALL FOR APPLICATIONS “I think the course was very good and easy to understand! One could easily participate and follow. It helped me to understand the EU better! The course was entertaining and informative! The right mixture of learning and fun!” (Feedback, EU Crash Course, 2013)

Understanding Europe The EU Compact Courses offer pupils an interactive introduction of European politics. The courses are 4-hour-long introductory courses into the European Union, targeted at secondary school students between 15 and 18. The course encourages young people to talk about the EU and to work with European topics in an informative and interactive way. The course content concentrates on three core topics: Why does the EU exist? – Milestones of EU-History Who is the EU? – EU Institutions What does the EU do? – Areas of EU Competence and Policy Domains This project has been initiated by the Schwarzkopf Foundation in the run-up to the European Elections 2014, and is carried through with the support of the European Parliament and the Mercator Foundation.

Understanding Europe and EYP-Ukraine We believe that the EU Compact Course is a great chance for your organization to recruit participants, to reach out to more target groups and to enlarge a network of young active multipliers who will make a change. This is why we want to spread a word about the EU Compact Courses. We want to work together with Ukrainian Youth NGOs who are interested to implement the EU Compact Course in their activities, especially, in regions, since EYP-Ukraine works on implementing the project in Kyiv.

Who are we looking for? We are looking for 20 participants (representatives of Ukrainian NGOs) who want to build up an EU Compact Course trainer team within their organisation, to realize these EU Compact Courses in your region. We look for 1-2 persons per region who are willing to introduce this project in their respective regions.

Understanding Europe is a project of the Schwarzkopf Foundation in partnership with the Zeitbild Media Group, made possible by the European Parliament and the Mercator Foundation.


With the help of the Schwarzkopf Foundation and EYP-Ukraine Coordination this core team will: Take part in the International Train-the-Trainer Event in Kyiv (December, 11-13) and Berlin (Spring, 2016); Address interested schools in their regions and realize some pilot EU Compact Courses at schools; Build up an enlarged trainer team within Ukraine be able to realize more EU Compact; Have 24/7 support from EYP-Ukraine Coordinators of the project.

What do we offer? The Schwarzkopf Foundation and EYP-Ukraine will provide you with: EU Compact Course materials in English; Organisation of an international training event in Kyiv to teach new trainers the course concept and methods; Support in how to address the schools and how to build up a EU Compact Course trainers team in your region; Coordination of the “Understanding Europe�-network on behalf of EYP-Ukraine.

How can you participate? We will select 1 to 2 persons per region who participate in our international train-the-trainer event on December 11-13, 2015 in Kyiv. Costs for travels, food and accommodation will be fully covered. Please send your application until November 19th, 2015 and fill in the following form.
