Mafia 3 details its DLC expansion plans

Free add-ons complement three premium expansions

The makers of Mafia 3 detailed plans at PAX West for their free downloadable content coming to everyone after the game launches Oct. 7.

Users will get new character outfits to change the look of the main character, a weapons pack 30 days after launch and vehicle customization options, for starters. The vehicle customization includes personalized license plates and superfly paint jobs. Vehicles will also get a racing series, detached from the game's narrative, that deliver their own rewards.

That said, there will be premium DLC for the game, as anyone would expect from a publicly traded publisher. These include on expansion called "Faster, Baby," which, remarkably, involves a corrupt sheriff terrorizing civil rights activists on the outskirts of New Bordeaux. New Bordeaux is an analogue for New Orleans and Mafia 3 is set in the late 1960s.

"Sign of the Times," the second expansion, involves a series of ritual killings and tasks Lincoln, the protagonist controlled by the user, with hunting down the cultists responsible.

"Stones Unturned" will explore Lincoln's background as a soldier at the height of the Vietnam conflict, pairing him with a CIA operative to settle a score that began in the jungles of southeast Asia.

The three expansions are covered under Mafia 3's season pass, which is included in the$79.99 deluxe edition on offer. It's also available separately, and the expansions will be sold a la carte. The season pass is $29.99; bought separately, 2K says the expansions total $39.97 a la carte.

Mafia 3 will launch Oct. 7 for PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One. For more, see our in-depth preview from E3 2016.
