FIRST LOOK: Jared Leto's full Joker costume is revealed on set of Suicide Squad... and he DOES have those tattoos

Brace yourself, internet - the Joker does have tattoos.

New photos from the Toronto set of Suicide Squad reveal that Jared Leto will be inked up after all.

The internet went into meltdown last month when director David Ayer shared the first photo of the DC villain covered in a bizarre array of tattoos that sent most diehard fans either into a furious rage or fits of laughter.

A theory circulated soon after that seemed to placate the fanboys: the image was just a promo shot to celebrate the Joker's 75th anniversary. Pictures of a tattoo-less Leto on set seemed to back this up.

But on Monday new images leaked from the set showing an actual scene being filmed - and Leto was clearly rocking the controversial skin art.

The pictures also show the 43-year-old for the first time in his full Joker costume, and - in another perhaps less prickly departure -  he seems to have forsaken the purple of all his predecessors.

Nu Joker? The 43-year-old Oscar winner has truly transformed into a pallid, tattooed, green-haired, and capped-tooth clown prince of crime

Not just a promo then: This first still released in April made fans furious or just amused at the the thought of the DC villain with such literal tattoos

For life: It was theorised that the image was merely a promo shot to celebrate the character's 75th anniversary - but these latest images blow that out of the water

Sharp-dressed clown: The villain looks sharp in a silver blazer, black slacks, black shoes and burgundy button-down shirt... buttoned down so far as to reveal the body tattoos are definitely in place.

He cuts a very sharp-dressed clown, opting for a snazzy silver blazer, black slacks, black shoes and burgundy button-down shirt... buttoned down so far as to reveal the body tattoos are definitely in place.

He's even accessorized with some bling, rocking a gold watch and a number of rings.

The pictures are also the first time fans have seen the Joker together with his on/off girlfriend, Harley Quinn.

Margot Robbie plays his psychotic other half in the film, but in the photos appears to be in her psychiatrist alter ego of Dr Harleen Quinzel.

Wearing tan boots, tight black jeans, a button down denim shirt and horn-rim glasses, she is a far cry from the baseball bat-wielding psycho-cheerleader look she has been rocking on set to date.

The pair were filming an intense night scene from the movie beneath an overpass in Toronto.

Robbie is standing in the middle of the road when the Leto races at her in a pink sports car - with a HAHAHA licence plate - but stops short of hitting her.

He gets out and the two argue and then suddenly begin kissing. But a semi truck pulls up behind the stalled car and the driver gets out carrying a crowbar to see what the hold up is.

Quinn then pulls out a gun and shoots him dead before turning the weapon on the Joker, pointing it straight at his head. He suddenly grabs the gun and then slaps her to the ground.
