'We're NOT rigged!' Emmys organizers complain about Trump's claim they were biased against him because The Apprentice never won

  • Organizers of the Emmys hit back at claims that the awards are rigged
  • It came after Donald Trump said last night he 'should have' won an award
  • Presidential candidate fronted the TV show The Apprentice for 11 years
  • But despite receiving nine Emmy nominations, show didn't win one award

Organizers of the Emmys have hit back at Donald Trump's claims the awards are biased because his TV show The Apprentice never won one.

The Television Academy insisted that their awards are not rigged after Trump made the accusations last night during the presidential TV debate.

It came as the Republican candidate and his rival Hillary Clinton traded blows after he said the upcoming presidential election would be rigged.

Trump insisted that the vote is being swung in Clinton's favour by 'dishonest reporters' and said that voter fraud would be rampant during the election.

However, Clinton hit back at the Republican candidate's claims, saying Trump often says votes are rigged if they don't go his way.

She then pointed to the fact that Trump claimed the Emmys were rigged when his television show lost out on an award for his TV show The Apprentice three years in a row.

Clinton said: 'There was even a time when he didn’t get an Emmy for his TV program three years in a row, and he started tweeting that the Emmys were rigged against him.'

But Trump interrupted her and huffed into his microphone: 'Should have gotten it', drawing laughter from the audience at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas.

This then prompted the Television Academy to issue a tweet insisting that the voting process for their awards show is not rigged.

They tweeted a link to an infographic with an explanation of the voting process with the comment: 'Rest assured, the Emmys are not rigged.'

The infographic also revealed how voting for the awards by 20,000 Television Academy members is hand-tallied and checked by accountants Ernst & Young.

It also adds that the winner's names are printed and sealed in suitcases before they are revealed at the awards ceremony.

Meanwhile other TV actors also took to social media to dismiss claims that the Emmys are rigged.

Star Trek star George Takei tweeted: 'When Trump whines that the election is rigged and there's a conspiracy, remind yourself he said the same thing about the Emmys when he lost.

Host of reality TV show The Bachelor Chris Harrison said: ' How did not respond by saying only proof of rigged #Emmys is no #Bachelor.'

While Seinfeld actor Jason Alexander wrote: 'Dammit! Seven losses! I KNEW the Emmys were rigged!'

Trump fronted The Apprentice from the show's debut in 2004 until just last year.

The show was nominated for nine Primetime Emmy Awards from 2004 until 2009 but did not win a single award.

And during Tuesday night's debate, Trump also added he may not accept the result of the US election if he is deemed to have lost.

'I will tell you at the time. I will keep you in suspense,' Trump told Fox News Channel anchor Chris Wallace after he was pressed to declare that he would concede to Hillary Clinton if he loses.

He said 'millions' of people are on voter rolls 'who shouldn't be registered.'

News reports and independent investigations have found deceased Americans with active registrations, along with illegal immigrants who use driver's licenses to obtain ballots.

'That's horrifying,' Clinton responded, aghast at the idea of a presidential candidate questioning an election's validity.

The exchanges were part of a 90-minute debate that covered other issues including abortion, gun rights, the Supreme Court, allegations of graft in the Clinton-led State Department, and sexual misconduct accusations lodged against Trump.
