Japan’s ANA Holdings has purchased the Pan Am International Flight Academy, a US-based pilot training school.
The company’s former owner, American Capital Ltd, has reached an agreement with ANA for the purchase of Pan Am, in a move that will see the famous US aviation name expand its pilot training activities in the Asia Pacific region.
Pan Am is one of the world’s largest providers of flight simulation and aviation training services, and has the second largest number of flight simulators used for training. ANA now plans to utilise and expand these facilities by providing training to other Asian airlines.
“This is a very exciting time for Pan Am. We feel certain that working with our new owners at ANA will bring new and profitable opportunities for Pan Am’s continued growth, and particularly new opportunities for the employees of Pan Am,” said Pan Am’s CEO, Vito Cutrone.
Headquartered in Miami, Pan Am International Flight Academy was originally the training arm of Pan American World Airways, which was a major global airline until its closure in 1991. Purchased by American Capital Ltd in 2006, Pan Am now provides flight simulation and training on all the major aircraft types, operating nine training facilities in the US and overseas, with more than 200 aviation training programmes.
