OPEN HOUSE FOR EARTH SCIENCE WEEK

Join the Florida Geological Survey (FGS) for an Open House in celebration of Earth Science Week, whose 2015 theme is Visualizing Earth Systems. Guests can explore the new FGS museum, featuring a dugong skeleton, an extinct mako shark jaw, and several rock and fossil displays. An FGS drill rig, as well as offshore geophysical data and spring research in the Woodville Karst Plain and Suwannee Basin will also be on display. For hands-on learning, microscopes will be available to examine samples with geologists. Activities for younger guests will include coloring sheets that highlight prehistoric life in Florida and Play-Doh™ for making fossil molds. Staff will demonstrate and offer several examples of geoscience work in Florida and provide tours of the new FGS facility.
