Refreshing a Clear & Compelling Vision for Change

Change pushes us. Change challenges us. Change prompts us to grow.

Nonprofits are at the forefront of change. Whether its growing people or transforming communities, change is at the center of your work. Developing the skill to affect the right kind of change as an organization, Executive Director, or fundraiser is an imperative of leadership.

Change, however, is slippery to deal with. How can we promote deep and durable change instead of superficial and fleeting change? How can we make sure the right kind of change takes hold in the right parts of people? How can we make sure that the change we affect lives on in human systems in pursuit of social impact? This session will offer answers to these questions by way of providing a model for human and organizational development. And together, we will briefly consider four key questions that inform the "why" of your organizations, namely:

› What values inform how you will approach your work?
› What are the beliefs that guide your work?
› What should be different as a result of your work?
› What are the best means to accomplish these goals?

We’ll share examples of how organizations, by exploring these questions, have:

› Diagnosed the elements of people and organizations in need of transformation
› Designed effective change initiatives
› Engaged people in areas of their potential and intervene in areas of their recalcitrance
› Embedded change within people and human systems

"The Dialogues in Action team are great teachers. We were fortunate enough to participate in Project Impact. The lessons we learned have changed the way we evaluate the impact of our work. We now have a great tool that helps us to prove our successes and improve where needed."
-Bridget Cooke, Executive Director at Adelante Mujeres

Rebecca Alexander | Associate | Dialogues in Action LLC

Rebecca joined Dialogues in Action LLC in 2013 to support the inaugural cohort of Project Impact PDX, a nine-month evaluation boot camp whereby participating nonprofits learn how to prove—and improve—their impact. An excellent writer and communicator, she is passionate about helping nonprofits determine and convey the change they affect in the world. Rebecca has raised friends and funds for several community nonprofits, including the YWCA of Greater Portland and Impact NW, who share fundraising services in an effort to realize efficiencies in the service of directing more donor dollars toward what matters most: Their missions.
