The Washington Technology Solutions (WaTech) is one of the newest agencies in Washington state government and is the utility technology provider for state agencies, tribal, and local governments.  We are pioneering the newest technologies and have a passion to see these advancements assist our customers in doing business better. WaTech is in the process of realigning with the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) and the Enterprise Technology Services Division of Department of Enterprise Services (DES).  This is a fulltime permanent position; and as the new agency is formed, this position will be an integral part of current and future business operations.

Duties

As a member of the Server Provisioning Support team, this position serves as a technical specialist at the senior professional level, responsible for independently performing installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and problem resolution for the Virtual Server, Private Cloud, and UNIX/LINUX environments. These skills are vital in the support of essential state services such as Department of Health Vital Statistics and Child Profile applications. This position contributes to the mission of WaTech by supporting our customers and contributing to the uninterrupted availability of WaTech services. Additional duties include:

·         Supports VMware vSphere Virtual Server infrastructure including a Management Cluster and virtual networks.

·         Responsible for installation, capacity management, troubleshooting and provisioning of servers to support the infrastructure including Blade Servers supporting the Virtual Server environment.

·         Responsible for host and guest system patching, applying hardware, software and firmware updates.

·         Maintains VMWare vCOPS automation scripts that are used by the CTS Private Cloud service to provide self-service virtual server provisioning automation capabilities for customers.

·         Maintains Windows and Unix/Linux server templates for standardized server provisioning.

·         Supports Disaster Recovery strategy and processes using a remote site to recover a Virtual Data Center.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: 

·         Four (4) years of information technology experience that was acquired within the last ten years in the areas of Virtualization technologies such as VMware. Experience required is consulting, analyzing, designing, programming, installing and/or maintaining computer software applications, hardware, telecommunications, or network infrastructure equipment, providing customer or technical support in information technology and supporting Operating Systems.

 

Desired Qualifications:

·         Four (4) years of experience supporting servers running Window Server Operating Systems.

·         Four (4) years of experience supporting servers running Unix or Linux Operating Systems.

·         Four (4) years of experience supporting Open System applications such as Apache and Tomcat running on Linux.

·         Two years of specific knowledge and experience with Data Base products such as Oracle, Structured Query Language (SQL), or MySQL.

·         Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Technology.

Insurance Benefits

Retirement and Deferred Compensation
 
State Employees are members of the Washington Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS).  New employees have the option of two employer contributed retirement programs.  For additional information, check out the Department of Retirement Systems' web site.
 
Employees also have the ability to participate in the Deferred Compensation Program (DCP).  This is a supplemental retirement savings program (similar to an IRA) that allows you control over the amount of pre-tax salary dollars you defer as well as the flexibility to choose between multiple investment options.
 
Vacation (Annual Leave)
 
You begin accruing vacation starting your first month of employment. Since we value your loyalty, the amount of vacation you can accrue increases the longer you work with us. Washington State supports members of the armed forces with 21 days paid military leave per year. Vacation accrues for full-time employees per WAC 357-31-165.
