Delhi: Five lakh saplings planted, says NDMC

Herbal trees such as Ashwagandha, Brahami, Haldi, Arjun, Awala, Rudraksh, Aloe vera among others have been planted

The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) not only met its target of planting 2 lakh trees but surpassed it by planting as many as 5 lakh saplings this monsoon, said officials. Of this, 30,000 are of large and medium trees while the remaining are ornamental and herbal verities.

Herbal trees such as Ashwagandha, Brahami, Haldi, Arjun, Awala, Rudraksh, Aloe vera among others have been planted in Subhash Park at Netaji Nagar, Lodhi Gardens, Nehru Park at Chankaypuri and Sanjay Jheel at Laxmi Bai Nagar, said NDMC chairman Naresh Kumar on Sunday.

A variety of large and medium trees such as Neem, Peepal, Jamun and Gulmohar have been planted across avenues, major parks, school premises and gardens in New Delhi area, while fruit trees such as Gauva, Mango and Jamun have been planted in the premises of various embassies and high commissions in the diplomatic area at Chanakyapuri.
