On the Charts: Adele’s ’25’ Enjoys Another Platinum Week
After a record-breaking debut week, Adele‘s 25 added to its ever-growing list of Billboard 200 superlatives in its second week. 25 became the first LP ever to sell over 1 million copies in its second week after accomplishing that feat in its first. Adele added another 1.1 million copies of 25 to her tally, brining her grand total to 4.49 million copies after just two weeks. As Billboard notes, 25 has accounted of 30 percent of all music sales in the past two weeks.
Adele’s 25 also already stands as the third-highest-selling digital album of all time with 1.88 million downloads after just two weeks. Taylor Swift’s 1989 ranks second on that list with 2.31 million while Adele’s 21 is the titleholder with 3.19 million digital copies.
Justin Bieber’s Purpose clung to Number Two for a second straight week with 211,000 copies, while Pentatonix’s That’s Christmas to Me and One Direction’s Made in the A.M. claimed Number Three and Number Four, respectively.
‘Tis the season for Black Friday specials and a trio of Top 10 albums – Taylor Swift’s Album of the Year-nominated 1989 (Number Five), Fetty Wap’s self-titled (Number Eight) and Carrie Underwood’s Storyteller (Number Seven) – benefitted from a limited time $6.99 price tag on the iTunes Music Store that helped boost their sales.
The Weeknd’s Album of the Year-nominated Beauty Behind the Madness landed at Number Six, while Michael Buble’s 2011 seasonal collection Christmas ascended all the way up to Number Nine. The Now 56 compilation closed out the Top 10.
Next week, Coldplay’s A Head Full of Dreams will attempt challenge a seemingly unstoppable 25 for the Number One spot.
