Christopher Ward
Christopher Ward, who now serves as executive vice president at Dragados USA, is the former executive director of the Port Authority and a past commissioner of the NYC Department of Environmental Protection. With his pioneering work to modernize the region’s infrastructure and his record of accomplishment on the rebuilding of Ground Zero, Christopher exemplifies decades of principled and innovative leadership in the public and private sectors.

An online platform for individuals to sell handmade crafts, Etsy has empowered thousands of New York artists and helped spark Brooklyn's economic resurgence. The Center for an Urban Future is an independent policy institute that shines a light on the most critical opportunities and challenges facing New York City, with a focus on growing and diversifying New York’s economy, expanding economic opportunity and targeting problems facing low- and moderate-income New Yorkers.
Known for publishing fact-based policy reports that feature practical solutions and fresh ideas, the Center is one of New York’s most innovative and influential organizations. Our work is well-respected and widely used by policymakers, business leaders and nonprofit practitioners in all five boroughs.
In the past year, our research focused public attention on New York’s branch libraries, the city’s aging infrastructure, the youth unemployment crisis, the opportunity to create more middle-income jobs and the economic impact of the city’s design industries. Our reports have recently spurred the mayor and City Council to add funding for critical infrastructure projects, influenced plans to revamp the city’s workforce development system, led city officials to increase funding to public libraries for the first time in years and influenced new economic development programs to support low-income entrepreneurs.
