Nintendo's next console, the "NX", may be powered by Android, according to Japanese business site Nikkei. A NeoGAF user has handily translated the text:
"An insider source who claims that the OS for the platform will be Android based, and that it is a paradigm shift for Nintendo business-wise. The source goes on to say that when third parties abandoned Nintendo's WiiU one by one, it caused turning point in the company.
So while they have had a philosophy of developing their own software and hardware concepts internally for all these years, they are now prepared to embrace a more open platform with Android, to allow developers more flexibility in making content that can also be on smartphones and tablets."

So it appears everybody want to make low-mid-high budget, easy development & easy port anytime for any third parties just like Xbox One/tablet/smartphone will have Windows 10 based. If it's true, then very well, smart move.

Android pretty much sucks. The only reason it got popular is because at the time, competition either sucked (Symbian) or was overpriced (Apple/iPhone/iOS).
Could be a good thing similar to W10 and xbox, Will allow devs to develop once and publish on console, phone and potentially PC allowing ports of almsot anything across platforms.
I'll be jumping ship if this happens.
That would be wierd and would not look like a console OS at all.....then again the U/3DS have app-like tiles.

There where similar rumors when the Wii U was coming out. I doubt they will use Android anywhere close to what most people recognize. If they use anything from Google it would probably be the OS they co-own with Google with some upgrades using Android. (HTML integration etc.)
People should know Nintendo well enough by now, that if Nintendo does anything they like to make it their own thing.
There were rumors about the same with the 3DS before it was revealed. Take it with a grain of salt, fellas.
