HAVERHILL, N.H. (AP) - A small earthquake rattled some buildings - and some residents - near the New Hampshire-Vermont state line on Tuesday morning, just north of the town of Haverhill, N.H.
The U.S. Geological Survey said the 2.3-magnitude earthquake struck at 6:32 a.m. Tuesday in the area of Woodsville, N.H.
Haverhill Police Chief Byron Charles Jr. said the department received calls from startled residents shortly after the earthquake hit.
“They said it sounded like an explosion,” Charles said. “There was some shaking of buildings here.”
Charles said there were no reports of injuries or damage.
“An earthquake of this size is not expected to cause any damage, unless it’s something hanging very precariously on a shelf that got pushed over, but that’s about it. But it was felt,” said Justin Starr of the Weston Observatory at Boston College.
Starr said there do not appear to have been any aftershocks since the event.
