Content Marketing is Like Playing the Dating Game

Think back to the last time you went on a date. You sat down, began talking, and hoped that there would be some kind of spark. You were in search of that certain connection that you only get from someone really special.

In a way, your target audience is looking for that connection, too!

OK, so they’re not trying to date you, but they’re looking for a spark nonetheless. They want to know that you “get it”. They want to know that you understand their problems and their fears. Most importantly, though, they want to know that you have the tools and the expertise to solve their problems, answer their questions, ease their concerns, and just generally make their lives better.

And that’s where the perfect content marketing strategy comes in!

Even if you genuinely do all of those things for your customers, your web content may not show it. For example, if your articles consist of fluff instead of facts, you’re never going to be able to convince anyone that you have their best interest at heart. Or, if your sales copy is chock full of hype — instead of rational points that clearly explain why your business is the best choice — no one’s ever going to believe that you’re interested in making their lives better.

Without the right content marketing strategy, you’ll give your readers the wrong impression of who you are and what your business stands for. You’ll never be able to create that all-important connection. Instead, you’ll be selling your business very, very short.

In the end, you’ll wind up being completely forgotten.
