You know how there are just some people that know how to craft their hearts out? Kelli Murray is one of those gals. Did you see the watercolor paper flower DIY she shared with us a few months back? Girl knows how to craft for sure, and you can add these DIY clay feathers to the long list of pretty things she knows how to make. We’ll let Kelli take it from here. (Maybe, if we all keep being nice to her she’ll come back and share more DIY’s with us!).

– sculpting tools
– gold thread

Steps:
– First, you are going to need to roll out your clay to about 1/4″ thick.  You can work on parchment paper for less of a mess.

– Once your clay is all rolled out, start cutting out feather shapes with your sculpting tools. I freehanded various sizes, so no two feathers were exactly the same.

– I also cut out little notches along the edges to better represent a true feather.

– Before you bake, make sure to poke a hole at the top of your feathers using a toothpick.

– Follow the directions on your package to bake your clay. Mine said to bake at 275 F for 30 minutes per 1/4 inch of thickness. Bake it an oven-proof glass or metal surface.  If you plan on using the pan / dish again in the future for food, just cover it with parchment paper or aluminum foil first.

– Allow your clay to cool.

– Now it’s time to get creative with your gold leafing pen!  I chose to keep it simple with chevron stripes, but you can do whatever you want here!  The gold is definitely the finishing touch on these!

There are so many ways in which you could use these feathers! You can hang them from trees, create a mobile or decorative chandelier, or add them as a detail to a place setting. The options are endless. I hope you have fun with this!!

Thanks so much for sharing Kelli!
