Please help save our harbour for dinghy sailing! Dun Laoghaire Harbour Company is planning to build a 400 metre berth to facilitate huge cruise ships.

Details of the plans are here: http://dlharbour.ie/projects/cruise-berth-consultation/

Dun Laoghaire harbour is Ireland's most celebrated dinghy sailing location. It provides safe, sheltered waters where generations have learned to sail. In the Winter, over a hundred sailors of all ages enjoy sailing in the 'Frostbite' series on a Sunday afternoon. It is not uncommon to see entire families take to the water in small boats to enjoy close competition. In the Spring and Summer, Friday evenings see junior sailors take to the harbour waters to practice their boat handling and gain confidence on the water. The harbour also represents a training ground for Olympians such as Annalise Murphy. The Harbour Company proposes to repurpose the harbour for cruise ship passengers who have no investment in the Dun Laoghaire community. At most, passengers will spend a day in Dun Laoghaire town, assuming they don't simply bypass the area entirely on their way into the city centre. Dun Laoghaire dinghy sailors sail the harbour waters the year round. Please help save our harbour!
