Four large tow trucks spent most of the day Friday removing a large wind turbine tower and the tractor-trailer that had been hauling it from the side of Route 201 in Johnson Mountain Township in Somerset County.

The operation to remove the turbine, estimated to weigh 75 tons, began at 7 a.m.

Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said Friday evening the work was completed about 6:30 p.m.

Part of Route 201 between The Forks and Jackman was shut down for the work, which was done by several towing companies.
