Ogunquit beach-goers, residents cry foul over dumpster
People in Ogunquit are complaining about a dumpster in the middle of a beach parking lot.A fenced-in dumpster was installed in the middle of the parking lot at Ogunquit Beach because town workers had to bag and haul off trash dumped by beach-goers.“People consider it to be an eyesore,” said P.J. Sundin, manager of Splash Restaurant. “There’s been other people that are concerned about other people bringing their household trash down. I don’t know. Like I said, the last few years, what they’ve done has worked.”Mark O'Brien, the acting town manager and the town’s fire chief, said the new dumpster will be emptied once every morning.“They have to empty them so many times a day. They’ve tried to add more trash cans, but it just becomes a nuisance. So we’ve come up with this idea of putting a dumpster there,” O'Brien said. “They’re concerned about the seagulls, the critters.”Some people have already complained about the smell. The dumpster hasn’t been used yet, and will open up in the next couple of weeks, officials said.
