THE MOST COMFY FATHERS DAY GIFT Recliners have come a long way….

Father’s Day is just around the corner. So what better topic to write about than what to get the special dads and/or hubby’s in our life?

I

was fortunate to have a very close, loving relationship with my own dad. He is no longer with me and I miss him every day. He, as most, had an interesting life. He was born and raised in NY in a very ethnic, Italian neighborhood. I have wonderful memories of visiting my grandmother often in her tiny apartment. We lived in the suburbs of NY. Her apartment was in the Bronx. The aroma of marinara sauce or as Italians say “gravy,” was the first thing I would smell when I entered the lobby of her beautiful, historic building. All the tenants were Italian as well. Her apartment was filled with love, food and family. My grandmother, Mary, was an immigrant originally from Italy. She came to New York when she was sixteen years old to marry my grandfather Salvatore Di Mare. She arrived by boat and they married immediately. They had never met before. That was typical in their world at that time. The young men would come to America to prosper. The women would be sent from the old country to marry them and start a life in America. My grandmother was very proud to be living in America. She also took great pride in her home; she was immaculate and treated her tiny treasure as if it was a castle. She had plastic covers on EVERYTHING!! In the summer, our legs and arms would stick to the sofa it was so hot. Even the lampshades had plastic covers! However, there was one piece of furniture that had the honor of freedom without plastic. It belonged to my grandfather. It was his recliner. Oh yes, men and their recliners. It’s a love story that spans decades, without boundaries of class or ethnicity.

The Ultimate Recliner for Dad:

For many years, recliners were considered old fashioned and tasteless. Well, things have certainly changed. Recliners are making a huge comeback. Look in any design magazine and you will see them in the most posh of spaces. I also have placed them in many luxury homes. Recliners are what I call “happy” pieces of furniture. They are the perfect chair. They envelope the body, recline and move. They are the optimal piece of furniture to meet our sensory needs. They relax, calm and provide security. Plus, they are available in every price range, color and style one can imagine. If my dad was with me today, hands down, I would buy him a recliner for Father’s Day. So, if you’re reading this article and your dad is alive and well, consider yourself blessed and get him a well deserved chair fit for a king, a recliner. Happy Father’s Day gentlemen.

The MWE (Modern Work Environment) Emperor 1510 workstation is a work of art. It may cost you a lazy $50k, features: glare-reducing LED lighting, a Bose surround-sound system, and a reclining chair with everything from USB inputs to an in-seat sub-woofer…
