Anderson Animal Shelter Foster Volunteer Application
Thank you for your interest in the Anderson Animal Shelter Foster program! Foster families provide temporary in-home care for shelter animals who need extra attention or, for health or behavior reasons, would benefit from the care foster families can provide. Anderson will provide the veterinary care, food and other supplies - you provide the love! If you are under 18 years old, we need to have your parent/guardian fill out all necessary paperwork on your behalf, as they will then be legally responsible for the foster animal(s).
Typically, most foster pets will stay in their foster homes for a period of 2-3 weeks. Some animals, including pregnant and nursing moms with their babies, animals recovering from surgery and those undergoing heartworm treatment, will require longer foster commitments. As a foster volunteer, you will always be allowed to choose which type of pet you would like to foster, based on your experience, training and comfort level.
Because we cannot guarantee the health of foster animals, please ensure that your own pets are up-to-date on vaccinations before considering the foster program. We also require that your pets be spayed/neutered prior to becoming a foster volunteer.
Note: The Illinois Department of Agriculture requires that foster volunteers pay a $25 annual fee to become a licensed foster home. After the first year, Anderson will pick up the cost of this fee, should you continue to foster for us, but we ask foster volunteers to pay this fee for the first year, at your orientation session.
Please fill out the following form completely, so that we can find the perfect foster pet for your family. We're looking forward to meeting you!
