Trying to install my student license copy of 3DS Max 2016, but after unpacking my install file, I get an error saying, "A restart of the operating system is currently pending. You must restart the system berfore continuing installation. Do you want to restart now?"
I've tried various troubleshooting methods, including disabling my antivirus and running the installer as an administrator. I've also tried a few of the different offered installation methods - both through the autodesk download manager and as a browser download.
I am running Windows 10 (64 bit), and I had seen that there was another post that suggested that Max was incompatible with Windows 10, but that seems insane to me - I can't be the only person on the planet trying to run Max on Windows 10.
My suspicion is that the installer failed the first time and is in some state of half completion, and while I've wiped the unpacked files in C:\Autodesk, I haven't gone through and messed with my registry - as I really don't have any clue what I would be changing.
Any suggestions? Thanks

Its not unusual to have problems with software which was released prior to the OS release, its just the way it is. Thats why its important to check system requirements prior to installation (and purchase, if you're spending money).
You could try to look for a .msi running in the task manager process window, and kill it.
Windows Update could be running in the background and coincidentally be trying to install updates, you could temporarily try turning windows update off.
Another thing to try would be the Microsoft Fix-It utilities, but unfortunately they don't work on Windows 10 yet.
Have you tried running 'ccleaner' before installing? If you use Chrome, make sure Chrome is fully quit before use... check task manager and kill it in there too, closing it the regular way will still leave it running resident in memory.

For anyone else experiencing this issue, it can be solved by going into the Control Panel, going to Turn Windows Features On or Off and disabling the .Net Framework updates (in my case, both 3.5 and 4.6).
Hope this helps a few people out!
I also got the same problem ,while i was trying to install autocat2016 in windows10...can i get any help????
