JOHNSTOWN — A car fatally struck a 38-year-old Texas woman who was walking just south of the Johnson’s Corner truck stop Thursday night.
Johnstown Commander Aaron Sanchez said the woman was walking northbound on Southeast Frontage Road just south of the truck stop when a 2014 Ford Crown Victoria struck her shortly before 9:30 p.m. She was pronounced dead on scene by emergency workers.
The Larimer County Coroner’s Office has identified the woman as Ivonne Arredondo of El Paso, Texas.
A 64-year-old Johnstown man was driving the vehicle. He was taken to Medical Center of the Rockies where he was evaluated and released that night, according to Sanchez.
The Southeast Frontage Road was shut down for several hours between Johsnon’s Corner and County Road 50 while officers completed the investigation.
Sanchez said he could not confirm whether or not drugs and alcohol were involved — he added that more information should be made available on Monday.
Charges or citations will not be issued until officers have completed the investigation.
Sanchez said it has been several years since the Johnstown Police Department has investigated a fatal accident in Larimer County; however, Johnstown officers responded to a traffic accident involving a death on April 22 in Weld County on County Road 46 near County Road 15.
Larimer County Sheriff’s Office officials assisted the agency with the call.
Anyone with information about Thursday night’s accident should contact Johnstown police officials at 587-5555.
