Diego Martinez Santos receives 2013 Young Experimental Physicist Prize

15 mei 2013

Nikhef-postdoc Diego Martinez Santos is awarded the 2013 Young Experimental Physicist Prize for his outstanding contributions to the trigger and commissioning of the LHCb experiment, and the analyses leading to the first evidence for the rare decay
B0s μμ . The prize is assigned to young experimental physicists for outstanding work in the field of Particle Physics and/or Particle Astrophysics.

Diego was the leading force of this analysis in LHCb, from the time that the analysis was conceived before the experiment (LHCb roadmap) to the actual implementation of all aspects of the analysis, including the last result of the first evidence of the B0s →μμ decay.

Diego got his Physics Degree at the Universidade de Santiago de Compostela in 2005 and finished his Ph.D. in 2010 with his dissertation "Study of the very rare decay B0s →μμ at LHCb". Since October 2012 Diego is a postdoc in the Nikhef LHCb group. He will receive the prize during the EPSHEP Conference in Stockholm on Monday July 22.
