Spokane to WSU-Pullman VanPool

If you're reading this, you've probably expressed interest in a vanpool that operates between Spokane and WSU.  This website explains how the vanpool functions so that you can decide if it's a good fit for you.  

We rent the vanpool from the Spokane Transit Authority for about $1,273 per month (gas and maintenance included) and it comfortably seats 10 passengers.  When the van is full, the monthly commuting cost for a full-time commuter is about $120.  For this price, you have reserved one seat  Monday through Friday.  We also provide part-time options.  If a part-time rider can find another commuter that complements their schedule (e.g., John rides MWF and Jane rides T/TH), they can share the fare.  Individuals sharing a fare cannot ride on the same day.  If your schedule varies by week, we recommend paying the full fare.  

If you are a casual commuter or just looking for a ride in either direction, the fare is $10 each way.  You should contact Robert Frank (via email below) to see if there are seats available when you'd like a ride. If you are a serious commuter interested in trying out the vanpool, fill out the form below and you can ride once for free.  When you calculate your monthly commuting expenses, don't forget to include maintenance (e.g., oil changes and tires), wear on the vehicle, winter tires, and WSU parking permit expenses.  

The vanpool meets Monday-Friday in southwest Spokane, near Highway 195, and accommodates an 8 a.m.-5 p.m. work schedule. The van leaves WSU at 5 p.m. from the front of the Animal Disease Biotech building. This building is next door to the Vet school and Bustad.  Look for long white van. Folks riding in the vanpool congregate in the door of (or in front of) the Biotech building.

From a driving perspective, the commuters share the driving responsibility, and we rotate daily.  For example, John will drive Monday, Jane will drive Tuesday, and Robert drives on Wednesday, etc.  Drivers must submit their driving record to Spokane Transit Authority and take a driver safety course.  If you do not get certified to drive the van, there is a monthly surcharge.  Currently, the van drop-off and meet-up location is south of the CUE (Center for Undergraduate Education).
